Master Class: Using Performance to Explore Character’s Voice

May 13, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

How do you get characters to feel and sound real? One way is to stand up, put on their shoes, and move. And Sarah Ladipo Manyika knows whereof she speaks. The Nigerian-born author of both In Dependence (which is taught in schools in Nigeria and Zimbabwe) and the upcoming Like a Mule Bringing Ice Cream to the Sun, has been praised by the likes of Karen Joy Fowler for creating “the most memorable characters you are likely to encounter on the page.” This workshop, led by a self-described non-actor, will focus on how performance helps to bring characters alive.

Each Master Class Mixer is limited to just 15 students, lasts for three hours, and concludes with a reception with the author. If you are unable to attend your class, please emailinfo@litquake.org at least seven days prior to receive a refund or credit, minus a $25 service charge.
